Um is the smallest and lightest of the Niu family product line up. Its super lightweight and maneuverability make it a perfect tool for youngster to go to and from school, or get around town with friends in chic style.

Um is a hybrid between bicycle and scooter. The specially designed pedal system can easily switch between bicycle and scooter modes. In scooter mode, pedals are able to lock facing the same direction resembling a scooter's footrest.

Limited to 25km/h, Um provides up to 90km of rage in a package that weighs under 45kg. It is safe and fun with plenty of range to cover youngster's weekly needs to and from school in style.

M+ has kept the well-received design elements and rideability of M1 while improving the range and the comfortable space for two. It inherited the smart system and experience from all NIU products such as the GPS, 360-degree lighting system, smart LCD dashboard, auto-off signal lighting, and cruise control. M+ wisely applies color separation under the seat to adjust the visual balance so it would look just as lite and agile as M1 even though it is physically bigger. The new battery pack provides 130km in terms of range making it a better product for a long-distance commuter for two. With 13 sensors place around the vehicle and a strong processing Cloud ECU, users are able to connect permanently with their vehicle with "NIU E-Scooter." With integrated GPS tracking and diagnostics, the application alerts the user to the battery level, malfunction, or when unauthorized movement occurs.

The goal of Niu technology has always been to create a sustainable lifestyle brand for green influences. Having accumulated successful experience from our previous N / M series products, Niu keeps on evolving and challenging new ideas, hoping to provide a new urban commute solution to a broader range of consumer groups.

Niu has refined our scooter settings and reconsidered the essential needs for different consumer groups based on the 2.6 billion kilometer rider's data and consumer research for this new product.

Therefore, the goal was very clear right from the start of the project. We were to design a light, agile, and adaptable platform. Consumers should be able to customize the scooter easily with accessories and a minimal amount of effort to tailor the scooter's function to their needs.

U's design is a balance between structure and styling. To achieve adaptability, we have decided to expose it's structure and have chosen a 38mm diameter frame design. We believe the thick frame could provide better strength and impact, and could highlight the streamlined design. Its frame becomes part of the body and the unique character of the design.

U has inherited all the smart features including APP analysis and GPS tracking, etc. from Niu's previous products. On top of this, a keyless start system and electric motor lock have been added to the design. Since the motor locks up when the alarm's triggered, our consumers can feel safer zipping around town and enjoy the convenience keyless system provides.

To Niu, U series is more than simple transportation. It is a new way to a reliable and convenient lifestyle for our consumers.

Electric Scooter has been produced in China market for many years. Its impression for the general consumers has always been unsafe and low quality; therefore, it is not desirable transportation for young urban commuters.

The goal of Niu Technologies is to create a sustainable lifestyle brand for green influences. We try to rethink and redefine what electric energy means to future transportation. M1 is a cool and fresh-looking electric scooter designed for young urban users. Slim, modern, chic, and intuitive are the core attributes for designing M1 from inside out.

We believe good design should bring people joyful experience; therefore the team has done intensive testing and muck-ups for ergonomics study.  Besides the comfortable seating posture, we also rethink the features of the controls for the easy and intuitive operating. To keep M1's aesthetic clean and flowing, the exterior is constructed by minimum plastic housings to achieving the holistic unit body look and feel. By adding the central shock and high strength aluminum alloy swing arms, the engineering outcome ensures the best riding performance as well as safety and comfort.

The circular LED headlight is the inherited signature element from N1 which now embedded with a smart light sensor for adjusting the high/low beam automatically. The Niu App2.0 is also smarter than ever for accurate thief tracking, road condition, and mileage reminder, etc.  Overall, M1 is not only an elegant scooter but also a reliable, thoughtful, and smart two-wheeler for urban users to commute in style.

The reason I started this project was simply just can't find a decent headphone holder for my $600 headphone. I did a quick survey online and a few hi-end headphone retail stores. The result was rather disappointed. Figure EIGHT is not only a headphone holder for your precious headphones but also a stand along beautiful sculpture itself. The overall shape is merged by two perpendicular cylinders on top of each other; the top cylinder is to hold the head-band and the bottom cylinder is to fit the left and right ear pieces so the headphone can be firmly hung on the wooden holder, thus the form really follows the function. The tunnel between the two ear pieces can store the headphone cord. Figure EIGHT is made of a single piece of North American walnut by CNC milling then hand finish.  It is solid, elegant and one of kind. It wants to be a functional and beautiful object on your desk.

The big idea of the final design concept was to design a total integration time piece which was not only an integration between the watch and human body but also the watch itself. My design approach to the Triax 300 was of a more elegant yet still sporty look and feel. Triax 300 was the first watch to use co-molding process to mold the watch band with the watch movement housing at the same time. The advantage was great duration and no color matching problems between the band and the watch. The oversized display was tilted to 23 degree for even better visibility while running and glimpsing the time. Polished and anodized aluminum bezel gave a high finish and high end look as well as prevented the watch from scratch.  The polyurethane rubber band wrapped around the big crystal display and formed a complete loop implying endless time movement. To date over 300 million in category sales world-wide, the Triax series has won numerous international awards.

Since the cork chair is mainly designed for kids, the design should look pleasant and feel friendly; it also needs to be thoughtful to adapt kid's sitting behavior. The style of the cork chair is playful but it's actually very elegant in terms of overall proportion and details. The extended surface from sitting area is to place kid's favorite toys or books; it also allows kids to sit creatively. There is also a built-in pet house under the seat to make the chair the most comfortable spot for both kids and pets.

The construction of the cork chair is inspired by bicycle helmets. The cork material is not only shock absorbing for safety and comfort but also environmental friendly. The seat top is made by a thin layer of vacuum forming styrene for easy cleaning and maintenance. Additionally, the cork chair also comes with a bigger size for adults.

I wanted the final design to be focused on people-centeredness because human factor and usability should not be afterthoughts on a hand-held devise. I nailed down a few keywords for the development themes such as personalized, expandable, and professional. In order to overcome the palm products,  I had to emphasize on multi-tasking and multi-capability of the Pocket PC and make it like a mobile Swiss knife than just an electronic organizer or an address book. The final design had to look compact, elegant, intelligent and sophisticated. The final design had to work seamlessly between the hardware and the software to be able to operate the Pocket PC intuitively. To reduce the weight and size of the product,  the core team came out with the expandable jacket concept . The curtail  benefit  of the  feature jackets were designed to fit in different users in different usage scenarios without burdening too much technology into the small devise.

Ultimate Book

Ultimate Book is a dual-touch-screen laptop which combines two 14inch touch sensitive hi-res displays and a Bluetooth physically keyboard. Through the multi-function App, the two display can work separately as multi-tasking as well as simultaneously work together as the second display. It can be used like a regular laptop or it can be hold like a book for reading. The second display can also be used as a tablet for digital drawings with the smart stylus. Another smart feature is to use the slide-out Bluetooth to switch modes between work/ entertainment. While in the work mode, the keyboard locates on the upper portion of second display which is recognized and registered by four magnets underneath and the lower portion becomes the palm rest and touch pad control. While in the entertainment mode, the keyboard moves to the lower portion of the second display that leaves the room for extra display area for multi-window viewing option. The package comes with a stand for desktop transformation.

The reason I started this project was simply just can't find a decent earphone rack for my $500 earphone. I did a quick survey online and a few hi-end earphone retail stores. The result was rather disappointed. Infinity is not only an earphone rack but also a stand along beautiful sculpture itself. The overall design intend is just like a pair of earphone resting on someone's neck. One hand operation make it intuitive and easyto use. To be a thoughtful design on desktop, it has a storage for cable management and other accessories.  Thebase is made of casting aluminum; it is also a secret compartmentfor notes or coins.

Surge Protector

Bull is the number one surge protector brand / manufacture in China. Although they own the largest market share in the nation, most of their products are low-tier and cost sensitive. In order to compete with other up-coming competitors, Bull needs to rethink their market strategy. My proposal to them was first to improve their low –tier line products and then gradually move to their high-tier products. Working on low-tier products are always a great challenge for design due to the cost sensitivity. The big idea for this series design was to add a large glass-like top cover to give a high-tech IT look and feel. Since the new designs aline with expensive smart phone or pad, we would like to see more uses to place the new and beautiful surge protectors onto their desktop for easy accessibility.

My challenge was to design a compact and unique web cam which could gain market share and set a fresh brand image for Kensington. The design focus was to create a strong icon which would well characterize the simplicity, ease of use and precision quality of this product. Even though eyeball-look and creature-look web cams were the trends at that time, I took advantage of equipping super VGA CCD, a high resolution sensor, inside and then designed the web cam to look like a mini portable 35mm camera. The video cam had a manual focus lens for clear picture quality. It could rotate 90 degrees for viewing angle adjustment. The detail on the back was a place holder for the lens cover as well as a grip for holding the camera ergonomically. The base was weighted so the video cam stayed when the USB cable was accidentally pulled by users.

The shooter launched aerodynamic soft plastic rings that flew in a spinning motion to maximize flying distance and accuracy. The unit met all consumer safety requirements and then spawned the complete line of toys based on the same mechanism. Together with Function Engineering, I proposed a modular inner housing to enclose the shooting mechanism for a cost reduction. In toy design, cost, safety and durability were three major factors to be always kept in mind. In cost, traditional toy market were extremely compatible, so I avoided complicated assembly process. In safety and ergonomics, I got rid of every sharp corners could possibly harm little kids then I designed the big T shape loader for easy spring loading. In durability, kids abused toys, so I tried to have less moving parts and weak joints in case the toy dropped and shattered in pieces.

V77 Rotator

V77 Rotator

V77 was the concept design for next generation of V70.  Due to the feedback from V70 users,  it was a definitely an eye-catching  mobile phone, but interms of usage , the display was too small  to  read and the  rotating  movement  was not easy to open it by one hand. The design direction was to maintain the legacy of original V70 but also to make a big leap for the usability design. The final concept was to apply a circle display for the maximum viewing area and to replace the  rotating  mechanism into semi- automatical so it became a lot easier to be opened by one hand.

Paper Shredder

Paper shredder is one of the critical equipment in an office environment. It is used daily to protect company's trade secrets. Since it is so often used, it needs to be intuitive and efficient in terms of both visual impression and physical operation. Aurora AS106 paper shredder was inspired by the motion of waterfalls from natural phenomenon. The shape of waterfall implies powerful and flowing which are the significant essentials reflecting on the functionality of this paper shredder. Equipped with the strongest motor inside the shredders, Aurora AS106, AS086 and AS066 are able to shred staples, paper clips and CDs. It takes papers up to 10 pages at a single feeding which is quite a time saver if you are a frequent user. The overall design gives a new and fresh look of what a modern paper shredder should be as well as a seamless fit in a contemporary office environment. Although the design is very unique, it does not add up more parts to achieve the elegant look.

Aurora is a company of office furniture maker from Taiwan. Their executive furniture are well received by the China market. Bridge is designed to fit into the designated premium environment and placed on top of the 3-meter Executive's wooden desk. Collaborating with Konica Minolta for their unique even-reflecting technology, Aurora wanted to create an additional business on LED lighting solutions. The new brand would carry all kinds of lighting products specializing on exclusively premium level. Unlike other LED lamps, Bridge has imbedded with advanced Wi-Fi receiver and many sensors to be controlled by smart phones or human movements. The series of designs were based on Chinese Feng Shui to be good-fortune objects to enable successful business.  The center piece is made of Liuli which is quite a expensive material for add-value.

Besides Post-it stickers and pushpins, magnets are probably the most frequent used stationary in office environment. Office magnets are designed like pushpins. For efficiency, 2-point were created to save time and energy while posting up printed materials. Instead of using two separated magnets, the solution was to bridge two super magnets into one unit. The design is simple, efficient and time saving which makes the presentation be done easily. 2-point magnet can be used and restored creatively . Y ou can even use them to leave a short message if you like. Accompany with metal cabinets and dividers around your desk, it can also act like a hook for hanging earphones and chargers. 2-point magnet is stackable for space-saving storage. It's really a great office assist.The final result was acollaboration with Aurora design team.

Hybrid Net TV

The purpose of ACP5  was to search for a new design language of their new generation products. Skyworth as the biggest China TV brand, it did not consistently follow a design philosophy and design language.  This design excise helped their in-house design team to rethink who they are and what they do. By adopting the new design language guideline, Skyworth equipped a strong and consistent brand image to compete with other competitors.

The 55 inch Hybrid Net TV was a state of art technology of high definition TV. The LCM was not only thin but also narrow on boarders. The second display was to show basic control status and feedbacks from the remote control. It could also sync up to your mobile phone for incoming call reminders. Hybrid Net TV equipped with High quality sound bars. The sound bars were also designed as the stands which could be rotated backwards to work like a tripod for tabletop displaying. The sound bars intelligently solved the problem for over stock of TV stands.

Intel Shanghai asked us to come out with  an idea for home base internet devise for 2013 CES show. After internal discussion and brainstorming section, the designers decided to create a dedicated

home appliance control and home entertainment product. The design approach was to focus on dual-display tablet which would work seamlessly along with IOT (internet of things) technology as a smart home control terminal. The Smart Home Butler was basically the brain in the house. It monitored all connected house appliances to make sure they worked properly. It could also synced up with your mobile phone for updated data such as the daily power consumption and appliance status. Smart Home Butler also functioned as a regular touch-screen tablet. It could strand up itself and be used in different environment for associated functions.

This interesting project was asked by a China-based start-up company called Scene Communications.  They had owned the special encryption for mobile phone security which was announced that no one on the earth can solve the combination code! They wanted their smart phone design resembling Ninja because of the stealth technology. The design challenge was to design the phone with unique characteristic as well as to appeal beautiful ascetics. Shuriken was obviously taken the famous ninja weapon for a translation.  It was bold and provocative but it would be a phone you wouldn't forget after you had seen one. The four protective corners actually helped tremendously on the phone drop test.

E6 Rokr

The Rokr  E6 is a direct descendant of the E680 and the MING, sharing the same Linux operating system. The E6 features a built-in FM radio, (but no radio recording). It also inherited the 2-megapixel camera with manual macro-switching and business card recognition from MING enhanced with QR Code recognition functions. The phone is part of Motorola's line of phones running Linux, this one using a modified 2.4.20 kernel. The software is an updated version of MING (Motorola A1200), with a different file system. Most of the apps that work on the MING work on the E6, but some may not due to the file system. Normally the phone only runs on tri-band GSM networks, though some have found an exploit to get it to run on Quad Band networks and over Edge. The radio channel frequency can also be modified beyond 88 MHz to 65 MHz, and the preset number of channels can also be modified.

The story began from Jun 2010 in Shanghai…I participated a charity event for creating an artwork by re-using the tear-down materials from the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. I thought this would be a great challenge to explore the possibility of green thinking as well as to send a positive message to the general public.
I was later assigned three bicycles from the Denmark Provence to perform the "designer's touch". I thought about focusing on the emotional connection between objects and people. Only if we treasure and appreciate our belongings, we don't throw away the stuff easily. Therefore, I decided to make a life-size DIY bicycle kit.
Through " do it by yourself ", I wants to reinforce the emotional connection between people and the products. Treasuring everyday goods with passion and appreciation would extend the product lifecycle. Less disposable less harm to the earth.

The 2010 world Expo is right around the corner. Shanghai, the holster city of this magnificent event, has shown willingness and openness to embrace the world and welcome visitors from all over the globe. Inspired by the skyline of Shanghai city, I have collected 28 well-known landmarks and buildings in Shanghai to construct a Chinese folding fan. While the fan is being opened, the landscape of Shanghai is gradually exposed. It symbolizes Shanghai is expending her horizon and exposure as the first-level cities in the world. During the hot summer event, the special designed Shanghai Fan would bring you the coolest Shanghai breeze.

" I am nothing without you" There is no absolute truth and forever lie existing in reality. The fact is what so called truth and lie are co - existing in a real world.
The crystal tube is representing the truth when people scope the world with their own eyes; the crystal ball on the other hand is representing the lie because  it reflect the world upside down.
Together, the Truth and Lie work harmoniously and become a glassware. As a whiskey or cocktail glass, the crystal ball can be put in the freezer as an ice-cube.

Timeless and Built to last are the ultimate goals I have been pursuing for my designs.
Charles Eames (1907-1978) was one of the best and influential furniture designer in America. Eames's products were functional, aesthetical and ergonomic. Even though most of the designs are over fifty years old, they are still being mass produced all over the world. It's  my tribute to my design idol Charles Eames for reconstructing on his Shell Chair. Stainless steel is a tough material. I chose it o replace the original fiber glass in order to make this classic design even more " Timeless".

Ming Chair is one of the most significant art and craft achievement in Ming dynasty. Ming Chair was originally a indoor chair for lobby and living room but I wanted to make this Contemporary Ming Chair as a outdoor chair. The Mingnimum  chair is make of stainless steel. Its overall design is an even more simplified geometry than the original Ming Chair. I still keep the main characteristic of the curve arm but with a slight modification to extend a pair of upward handles for easy getting up. The handles are also hooks for hanging your bags or purses when enjoying the sunshine and a cup of coffee outdoor.

Biker Stool is a high stool specifically designed for sports bars or biker's bars. It is made of alloy aluminum for the saddle and stainless steel

for the base. It was inspired by Ducati 900, the Monster bike, to show off the toughness and enjoyment of speed sensation for bike enthusiasts.

The saddle design is tilted in a small angle up to make a person sit straight up for a good posture.  The top of saddle is covered with a layer of Polyurethane for sitting comfort. The Bike Stool is bold ， sturdy ， and it is every man's dream to sit on one.

H Chair

H Chair

The design objective of H Chair is comfortable. Most plastic side chairs are not so comfortable to sit for hours. To level up the comfort of seating experience on a plastic side chair, a unique design has applied to the H Chair by splitting the back and seat of the chair. The back can now be more flexible and yet still be strong to support and to accommodate the body movement and weight shifting, so does the seat. The 4 zones on the H Chair work as independent suspensions on a car.

Another big attempt on the H Chair design is to give a strong visual impact besides equipping up the functionality. The double-decker structure not only gives more flexibility on the seat but also surprisingly provides a storage for users. The handle on the back of the seat is for easy handling but it also acts like a lumbar support. It can also be a bag hook for the person sit right behind you. The overall form of H Chair is very iconic and recognizable from distance. It's stackable for variable spaces and usages.

The objective of this project was to design a collection of accessory for apple desktop, to keep the desk tidy and unified style with Apple products. The purpose of this project was  to ensure the product is high-quality and easy to manufacture therefore the design and the production were based on aluminum extrusion and metal die-cast capability.

Box series provides closured storage space for parts and small stationary. The center section is made of aluminum; the top lid and bottom are made of recycled plastic in black.

Tray series provides opened storage space for pens and notes. The stood up pocket is a holder for iPhones  and iPads . The tray is made of die-cast aluminum.

Pen holder series provides opened storage space for pens and coins. It is very useful for people who draws a lot with many markers.

I am always struggled about buying a product for only occasional use. Umbrella stand is one of them. It takes out space and is only used for the raining day. I thought what if I could find a necessity at home then redefine and reinterpret its usages to bring new product experiences. Then I found wooden stools, it has a perfect structure to hold the umbrellas when it is up side down.

To receive the ripping water, the stool needs a container instead of a flat seat for the wet umbrellas. Here it is; an ordinary object acts like a stool for 90%, tea table for 7% and an umbrella stand for 3%.Smart! Isn't it?

The result was rather disappointed. Ice is not only an earphone rack but also a stand along beautiful sculpture itself. The overall shape is fused by two cylinders arranged by 90 degrees; the top cylinder is to hold the head-band and the bottom cylinder is to fit the left and right ear pieces so the headphone can be firmly secured on the rack. The tunnel between ear pieces can be a storage for the earphone cord. Ice is made of solid clear acrylic so it is stable and sturdy. It is a great accessory to be on a desktop.

Winnie the Pooh Bar Phone

D-Magic is one of the local mobile phone maker and  licensee  for Disney consumer electronics. The theme was Winnie the Pooh. The  target consumer was female teenagers.  I have to say it was  quite a challenge  for a middle-age man to design products for teenage girls. Since the Winnie the Pooh graphic would play a big part of design, I kept the overall form extremely simple so I could leave more room for interesting details.  I applied the patterns of  flowers and bees to go with the venture story because Winnie the Pooh loved flowers and he was always surrounded by many honey bees. On the bar phone, the most critical appearance element should be the 5-way navigator, therefore  I used the shape of Pooh's head for the navigator and of  course his nose was the confirm button. the wall paper and graphic interface  were consistently keeping the venture stories in the forest.

Personal Gallery is an add-on platform for flat screen displays that allows users to regain the missing flat surface on the top of CRT monitors where were used to place personal items. With the popularity of flat screen computer displays, users no longer have the ability to personalize their work areas by displaying personal items on top of their monitors.  However, Personal Gallery brings back this familiar usage by providing an add-on platform for flat screen displays. The idea is to simply bringing back a familiar usage pattern from an adapted behavior. Personal Gallery provides the platformIt  for displaying  favorite personal objects. It is extremely easy to set up on any LCD monitor with the simple adjustment of two gear knobs to fit with the monitor's thickness. Personal Gallery is made of recyclable alloy aluminum with anodizing finish. It is elegant and durable for longtime use 。

Nu Chair

NU Chair is a side chair for both indoor and outdoor environment. It started as a challenge for me to use minimum aluminum sheet metal to make a lightweight but strong and durable chair. The inspiration was from crushing a piece of paper to form several creased surfaces to increase its stiffness. The creased surfaces were calculated and applied on the structural area of the chair which is the join between the seat and the back support. The making of the legs were similar to the top seating section. Metal sheets are cut and folded to form strong structure for holding weights. The entire chair weights about 5KG which is rather lightweight in comparison of other metal chairs. The designed creased surfaces make the overall chair design visually interesting and structurally substantial.

ZTE is one of the biggest and significant mobile phone and telecommunication company in China. Being their long-term partner of design strategy, we were asking to develop a complete set of smart phones for different market segmentations what we later divided them in to China Tech, China Young and China Queen. China Tech was a series of Android-base smart phone for heavy phone users who were into upcoming technology and were willing to test it out. Space Pebble was formed like a pebble to provide the best holding sensation for hands. The display glass adopted 3D glass- forming method to achieve the design intention. The rear housing was designed in small sections and each section functions differently. The top and down sections were antenna modules; and the left section was for memory module. Space Pebble could take two SIM cards for frequent travelers.

Pocket stool is designed with a storage space underneath the seat. The pocket storage provides a secure storage space for your iPad  or laptop computer. Through daily observation, I have found more and more people take their iPad  to bar or restaurant without a backpack or handbag. This built-in pocket is absolutely a nice-to-have feature for a generation of internet.
Smile stool is made of Alloy aluminum. It is durable but light weight.

Origami Chair

Origami Chair was inspired by Origami art which is a traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. The design of the seat and back support are made of one piece of aluminum sheet. By implementing a few cuts and folds, the flat sheet of aluminum magically transform into a strong but comfortable seating area. The formed rhombus becomes the critical structural element to hold up the seating area and back support as well as making the entire surface rigid. The four legs are made of solid alloy aluminum with a high polished finish. The Origami Chair is designed to be able to stack up for easy storage and transporting.

There is also a built-in pet house under the seat to make the chair the most comfortable spot for both kids and pets.

The construction of the cork chair is inspired by bicycle helmets. The cork material is not only shock absorbing for safety and comfort but also environmental friendly. The seat top is made by a thin layer of vacuum forming styrene for easy cleaning and maintenance. Additionally, the cork chair also comes with a bigger size for adults.

Taiji  Chopsticks

In Asian philosophy, the concept of yin yang , is used to describe how polar opposites or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other in turn. Opposites thus only exist in relation to each other. Yin yang are not opposing forces, but complementary opposites that interact within a greater whole, as part of a dynamic system.  The concept of yin and yang is often symbolized by various forms of the Taijitu  symbol, for which it is probably best known in western cultures.

Taiji  Chopsticks are two identical chopsticks each representing yin and yang. the spiral design on chopstick top enable two chopsticks to intersect each other. Together, they form the Taiji  symbol in preference to the idea of dynamic balance and endless energy.

This is a phone/pad stand + Hi- Fi Bluetooth speaker.  The design is simple, honest and minimum. The functional groove penetrates the well-proportional rectangular block of metal to form the most pure and direct design. the speaker unit is simply made of extruded aluminum and the 9000 speaker holes are individually punched through by laser. It has only a power button and a touch control for  volume adjustment. This is a design of minimalism.

Global warming has affect the daily life for you and me. Too much pollution is killing our O zone and creates more unexpected hazards. Al Gore's " An Inconvenient Truth " is notjust a movie but a strong message for us to pay more attention to our environment.

Planto is a watering pot specially designed for collecting rain to reuse the nature resource.  Its form resembles the plants and flowers but much stylized and simplified for usability.  It is symbolic of cycling phenomena from nature. The trumpet-shape water receivers provide the maximum area for rain collecting. With the built-in clear window, it is easy to see if the water pot is filled. Planto is simple to use and it is a great gesture for people to take actions on doing something green.

The earth needs more plants to maintain a healthy environment for the living creatures. I thought about to design a non-effort product for people to proactively protect our environment.

small action, big revolution.

The environmental crisis is an extremely urgent matter for everyone to take actions to avoid the waste of natural resources. Before the scientists are figuring out the substitute energy, we, designers, have responsibility to create with consciousness of environmental friendliness, not only to implement recyclable materials for designs but more importantly to have the right attitude then act on it. I started from my childhood memory that I always looked through a window and prayed for rain to stop. Observing rain hitting the glass window, I thought maybe to come out some outdoor objects to interact with the rain...then I thought about what if I can save the rain for the dry days …

Cumulus is an outdoor water container to collect rain for occasional household tasks. It is constructed by two separated components which are held together by super magnets in between. The water container is placed outside the glass window and the handle is on inside the glass window while putting it in use. Cumulus is simple to use and it is a great gesture for urbanite to take actions on doing something green.

Moto_Everyday Ruggedness

The objective of this concept design was to give possible fresh perspectives and new directions of everyday ruggedness really meant to mobile phone user. Instead of bulky bumper protection, the real ruggedness relay on the choice of rugged material such as titanium and stainless steel.

The housing was done by CNC metal; and the bottom housing was covered by water-resistant fabric and a thin layer of rubber grips. The top lens was made of sapphire which is one of the hardest glass to prevent scratches.  On top of the display area, four corner was shaped as magnify glass for always showing the most critical current status of the phone condition and information.  The over-sized keypad design was considered for people who might wear gloves while doing outdoor sports or on construction work.

On/Off  Hook is an elegant wall hook designed to be functional, yet unobtrusive. Inspired by light switch we use daily, the On/Off Hook mimics these characteristics, with its intuitive, stow-away hooks and sleek aluminum alloy fabrication. Hooks can be used multiply for bigger or heavier objects. It can also act as a mail holder and a key holder. On/Off Hook is supremely functional, ingenious and simple to use.

Unlike regular wall hooks that have protruding branches that make them look obtrusive, On/Off Hook's hooks can be stowed away and held by super magnets when not in use.  It is made of solid aluminum alloy with a modular design solution through extrusion fabrication process to reduce the cost while maintaining the simple and sleek aesthetic.

Community parks ought to be a safe place for kids to play after school. Unfortunately, we often see drunks or homeless people occupying the park benches as bunks. Instated of going to a shelter, they rather sleep on the benches because it is very convenient… The concept of the Vertical Bench challenges the perception of a public bench should be equally comfortable as a sofa at home. By carefully observing how the general public interacts with park benches, I rethink their usage pattern and then turn the seat 90 degree. It has fixed the problem of being a bunk. The cut outs on the Vertical Bench give a little bunch for additional comfort.

Oval hanger is a cloth hanger designed to be super strong for holding many heavy winter coats. The regular wire and plastic hangers are often replaced because they are not designed to hold heavy winter jackets. The hangers are supposed to keep our precious cloth in shape. When the hanger deforms, the cloth would probably be damaged. The shape of the oval hanger is calculated and engineered to be able to hold a load of roughly 50KG. It is manufactured by a simple extrusion process to save production cost. The surface is power coated for lifetime usage.

iStand is a tailor made pad/phone stand for Apple ipads and iphone5. The design is a smart and thoughtful solution for people who owns multiple Apple products. Some people like to use the protection jacket and some people don't, therefore it is difficult to fit them all in one stand.  The design has simply solved this problem with a 4-side rotatable stand; each side have different gap size to fit iPhone / iPad   with or withoutjackets. The tilted angle of iStand is carefully calculated to give the best viewing experience. For people who heavily use Facetime for communication,  the taller option provides the eye-level chatting experience. The iStand is made of alloy aluminum ; it is intentionally weighted for stability and durability. For a lot of female users out there, iStand has thoughtfully added a mirror for their daily needs.

Tower is designed to be a mobile CPE. It provides wire-less hot spot anywhere you go specially for a outdoor usage such as by the pool side or in the back yard. It contains a good size rechargeable battery for full day connection. It is convenient and intuitive to be carried around with the built-in handle design.

Nostalgic Bike Stool

Nostalgic Bike Stool is a high stool specifically designed for sports bars or biker's bars. It tends to be a nostalgic version of the Biker Stool.

It appears to be soft and friendly even it is made of aluminum. the design was inspired by the old motorcycle saddles. It can be sat straddled or  sideways.

The foot-rest / personal belonging tray is seamless integrated and thoughtfully designed for placing purses or hand bags for ladies in a bar. The slightly bended saddle plus the top polyurethane cover provide the comfort experience for a longer sitting.

Newstool, this durable, rust-proof but lightweight aluminum stool is made of die-cast aluminum and it can be stacked up for space saving.Non-slippery foot pads prevent slipping and protect floor. The uni-body design is structurally unbreakable with a smooth and sleek look. It is used on a daily basis for either indoor or outdoor. The design intends are frandly and eye-catching addition to any modern home or building project.  It is solid, elegant, and long lasting. Newstool comes in either plating, hand polished aluminum which is shiny, or powder coated in various colors. Newstool also uses between 75% to 80% recycled aluminum which makes this product environmentally friendly.  Also, one must look at lifetime costing, which aluminum Newstool has a lifespan of 30 years or more, making it a sound investment and great for the environment.

In the lack of time to comprehend and understand a situation, the best weapon is the reflection of animal movements and the instinct of self-preservation. Earthquakes are frequent natural disasters, and difficult to predict. Once an earthquake occurs, a large table top area, which can be quickly accessed, is the best bunker at home. In this design, strong triangular support structure to the mechanical design techniques into the table, plus the compartment can be filled separately for emergency tools and food. The appearance of the Earthquake Table is just like a normal dining table, the internal metal structure is hidden for eliminating unnecessary stress.

Soy Beam Milk Machine_H Type

The objective of this project was to design a fresh, chic and iconic soya-bean milk maker for Joyoung . Joyong is known as a number one soy beam milk machine maker in China market. It's top-motor handheld mixer set the standard for all the competitors. H-type is a new approach which reverses the familiar mechanical layout to move the motor mixer to the bottom for easy operation. The benefit of this major change is to lighten the container and enlarge the capacity and yet It still needs to be safe and intuitive to use. To make sure the H-Type soy beam milk machine does not look like a blender, my design direction was to create the control and display platform for visually separating the bottom motor and the container. The final design was intuitive on the controls and it looks chic and Fresh.
